Bucks land Glenville star

Just days after dropping down to eight verbal commitments, the Buckeyes are right back up at nine as Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville defensive back De'van Bogard committed to Ohio State on Saturday night. The 5-foot-11, 172-pound defensive back was on campus on Saturday for the one-day senior camp but did not work out. Bogard called Ohio State head coach Luke Fickell to inform him of the news just hours after camp.

"I just wanted to get the commitment out of the way really," said Bogard, when asked about the timing of the decision. "Despite the problems that Ohio State is going through right now, it's where I really wanted to go so I committed."

Bogard brings some much welcomed good news to a program that has taken some hits on the recruiting trail in recent weeks. Ranked as a four-star player by Rivals.com, Bogard is being recruited for the STAR position at Ohio State.

Bogard held offers from programs such as Michigan, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, and USC but says there was only one school he could see himself playing for next year.

"There were really no other favorites to be honest," he said. "It was O-State all the way."

The Buckeyes have seen some other major targets slip through their grasp recently in the wake of heavy media scrutiny and an impending NCAA ruling on possible sanctions. Bogard says he doesn't concern himself with those things and chose to look at the positive aspects of being a Buckeye.

"I wanted to play with all of the other Glenville players," he explained. "We're going to pick the program right back up. I'm excited (to reunite with former high school teammates)."

With no more camps to go to and the decision out of the way, Bogard looks to have a big senior season and he's working hard to reach his main goal.

"I'm just working on everything right now," he said. "There isn't just one or two things, I am always trying to get better at everything. My goal is to win a state championship."
