Memphis speedster camps at Ole Miss

Jaylen Walton admitted this weekend that he had originally planned to wait awhile before making a commitment to his college of choice.

However, with a couple of favorites having clearly emerged, Walton's decision appears somewhat imminent.

"It's getting close," Walton said. "I told myself I was going to try to wait but it keeps on coming back. It's getting close."

The 5-foot-8, 164-pounder from Memphis (Ridgeway), Tenn., spent Saturday at Ole Miss' elite camp, impressing with his blazing 4.4-second speed in the 40-yard dash and with his route-running and dependable hands out of the backfield.

"My advantage is really high," Walton said. "I can actually have a chance to come in and play early with my speed and with the things that I know how to do. I feel I can come in and make a change to the offense."

Walton said Ole Miss and Cincinnati have emerged from a long and illustrious offer sheet as clear front-runners for his signature.

"I have two favorites now - Ole Miss and Cincinnati," Walton said. "There are some other schools. I'm still kind of shuffling my cards a little bit. I'm trying to see where I can live, where I can feel comfortable playing.

Ole Miss just feels so much like home. I've been knowing Ole Miss since I was in the 10th grade. They were my first offer. I just have grown with the whole team and the coaching staff and I just feel at home.

"With Cincinnati, the environment is real calm. I'm kind of iffy about the weather, but I can adapt to anything. Their spread offense is just amazing. They can really get the ball to the guys who know what to do with it."

Walton said he checked out Ole Miss' somewhat revamped offense in the spring and liked what he saw.

"I was watching (Ole Miss running back) Jeff Scott, the scat-back that they have," Walton said. "I was kind of watching him and looking a couple of years down the road like that was me. He really impressed me in the spring. I think I can fit real good into their offense."
