Frye makes his choice

Everyone knew Virginia Tech had the potential to make a lot of news over the weekend considering how many prospects were planning to be in Blacksburg. J.C. Coleman and Der'Woun Greene committed at the spring game and now another prospect has announced he will be attending Virginia Tech. It was an in-state prospect that the Hokies have been recruiting for quite some time and a recruit that has a lot of versatility.

Desmond Frye, the 6-foot-2, 170-pound wide receiver from Thomas Dale, committed to the Hokies on Monday afternoon.

"I just committed to coach Shane Beamer about thirty minutes ago," Frye said on Monday afternoon.

"Everybody was excited. I just liked it there (at the spring game). I'm going to call coach (Torrian) Gray tonight."

Ultimately it was the spring game that won Frye over. Prior to the weekend things were pretty even between Virginia Tech and UVa, but Saturday's festivities answered every question he had.

"I was really comfortable there," he continued. "My parents liked it. It's not too far from home and I felt comfortable with the coaches. I liked how they interacted with the players. I like the way they coach them up.

"I just felt like I was at home and it seemed like a good place for me to go. I liked the atmosphere a lot. The players react well to the coaches."

Frye said the Hokies are recruiting him as an athlete. He's hoping he will be able to play safety.

"It seems like I could really fit in there," he added. "I like the way they run their defense."

Frye added that he thought about committing at the spring game but decided to think things over for another couple of days just to make sure he was making the right decision.
