Watkins Talks Recent OU Offer

When Willie Martinez was hired at Oklahoma many thought the Sooners would see immediate rewards in both Georgia and Florida. Though Oklahoma did not land any players from the two SEC strongholds they didn't get heavily involved with any players through the 2011 class. That seems to be changing dramatically in the class of 2012 with offers out already to players like Avery Young, Ty Darlington, Geno Smith, and several others receiving serious interest.

One player from Martinez's old recruiting grounds that recently picked up an Oklahoma offer is College Park (Ga.) Woodward Academy star defensive lineman Jordan Watkins. The 6-foot-5, 260-pound prospect had been on Oklahoma's radar for a while but after spending a year getting more familiar with Oklahoma's traditional recruiting area Watkins is a sign Martinez and Sooners are ready to dive back into to SEC-area recruiting.

"Coach Martinez came by I guess about a month ago, just before the dead period and looked at his film and said he would take it back to the defensive line coach and they called Tuesday and offered," Woodward Academy assistant coach Matt Brennan.
