Change of plans for Drew

Apparently, Thomas County Central standout Ray Drew didn't want to wait after all.

The state's top-ranked player was originally going to hold off until Signing Day on Feb. 2 to announce his college of choice. That's no longer the case.

In a text to UGASports, Drew confirmed that he was moving up his announcement date to Wednesday, Jan. 28.

"Yes sir," Drew said in a text, when asked to confirm his decision.

Tuesday's announcement wasn't the only news regarding Drew.

Earlier, Rivals.com announced its final player ranking for the year, including word that Drew had earned his coveted fifth star after a strong showing in the U.S. Army All-American Game.

"Drew like earlier in the season at Badger Elite Lineman Camp raised his level of play to not only match but overmatch his competition," said Rivals.com analyst Barry Every. "He displayed the ability to overpower much larger offensive linemen by getting underneath their shoulder pads while driving them straight back into the pocket. Drew also showed excellent quickness off the snap of the ball and his consistency throughout the week at the U.S. Army Bowl proved that when push comes to shove he has what it takes to be a difference maker."

Now, a handful of schools will wait on pins and needles to see where Drew will play his college ball.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pounder has made official visits to LSU (Oct. 1), Auburn (Nov. 12), Georgia (Dec. 10) and Miami (last weekend). He will make his fifth and final official visit to Clemson this weekend.
