Boren makes the call

Ohio State picked up another vital piece of the class of 2012 recruiting class with the verbal commitment of Jacoby Boren on Friday night to the Buckeyes. If the last name of the 6-foot-3, 273 pound offensive guard sounds familiar it should. He is the youngest brother of current Buckeyes Justin Boren and Zach Boren. Jacoby confirmed his commitment to BuckeyeGrove.com via text message on Friday evening.

Boren has been a standout at Pickerington (Ohio) Central high school, a school that has turned out a great deal of Division I-FBS talent through the years including current Buckeye Jamie Wood. Boren had been picking up interest from many top programs but a lot of recruiting watchers just felt that it would be an eventuality before Boren would follow the footsteps of his older brothers to the Ohio State program.

"I just went in to talk to coach Jim Bollman and coach Jim Tressel and ask a few questions," Boren said. "I had decided when I went in I was going to commit to Ohio State and it is great."

Boren has played both guard and center at the high school level and a lot can happen between now and the time that the 2012 star enrolls at Ohio State. Guard seems to be the more natural position for Boren and he is willing to step in wherever he needs to in order to get to the field and help the team.

"Ohio State is a great school with great tradition and great coaches and that's something I wanted to be a part of," Boren said. "My family was really supportive and I made my mind up about a week ago. I was always leaning toward Ohio State but something just clicked last week."

People who have seen all three Borens in action in high school believe that Jacoby could be the best of the bunch and if you talked to either of the older brothers they would agree with that statement. Jacoby had to fend for himself with two older brothers who played the game as well and have a father, Mike, who made a name for himself at that school up north.

The Buckeyes already have the commitment of tackle Kyle Kalis from Lakewood (Ohio) St. Ed's to go along with Boren in what promises to be a smaller class than in years past. Boren is the fifth member of the recruiting class and this class could see two more linemen in it before it is all said and done with at least one of them playing outside if not both.
