Rodgers reflects on second trip to Cal

The University of California is thousands of miles from the home of Richard Rodgers, but the Shrewsbury (Mass.) St. John's tight end recently visited the west coast school for the second time of the summer.

That's a pretty good indication that Rodgers is serious about the Bears.

Cal signed four east coast prospects from the Class of 2010 and they already have one, Maurice Harris, in the Class of 2011. They're hoping they can add another in Rodgers, and thus far they have apparently made a convincing case.

"Recently I visited Cal again and that was about it," Rodgers said. "I was there on Tuesday of last week. I had been out there one time before this summer, so it was my second time on the campus for football recruiting. The first time was June 18-19.

"I was just there for an unofficial visit this time. My mom was out there so I went to the campus. I talked to the coaches again. It's a school I'm still looking at."

Cal isn't the only school that is in the picture. Boston College, Maryland, Notre Dame and Oregon round out Rodgers' top five.

Right now the 6-foot-4, 230-pound prospect isn't sure if he will be taking any official visits in the fall and he doesn't know exactly what his plan is from here on out.

"I just have to talk to my dad a little bit about all that," he noted.

Rodgers said the five schools remaining on his list are about even and none of them has an edge over the others.
