Charles Jackson snags A&M offer

During his first try at the 40-yard dash at Texas A&M's Sunday camp, Klein Collins cornerback Charles Jackson slipped. He ran a 4.46 anyway. With a clean start on his second try, he ran a 4.38. And wasn't satisfied.

"I could have run the 40 better," he said. "But I did all right."

"All right" was plenty good for the Aggie coaching staff, who offered Jackson a scholarship shortly after the camp concluded. It was the 30th offer the class of 2011 defensive back has received.

"I sat down and talked with Coach Sherman; he's a real cool guy," he said. "I also talked with Coach (MacMillan) and Coach Williams. We sat down and got to know one another and they offered me. That was really cool."

The offer capped an impressive day for Jackson, who also ran the shuttle in 4.07 seconds. He said he took a good deal away from the camp, both in terms of knowledge and competition.

"I got to go against some good players, and that was great. I like the competition," he said. "I also learned a lot...things like technique. The camp was really well organized."

The results of the camp and the quick rapport developed with the Aggie coaching staff have helped vault A&M into Jackson's top tier of college choices along with Arkansas, Oklahoma and Florida.

"(A&M)'s close to home, it's only like 30 minutes away. I know a lot of people who go to A&M and you never hear a bad thing about it," he said. "And the coaches are awesome. They're really cool."

Even though the Aggies are in good shape with Jackson now, he's not going to consider making a final decision before attending a camp in Gainesville on July 23.

"I'm fixing to blow up," he said.
