Rodgers checks out Oregon
The Oregon Ducks opened their 2010 Camp on Monday in perfect football weather at the Autzen Complex in Eugene. Observing the action was a visitor from the east coast who happens to hold an Oregon offer at wide receiver. Shrewsbury (Mass.) standout Richard Rodgers was in town checking out the campus, and Duck Sports Authority was on hand to ask a few questions about his experience here.
At 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, Rodgers doesn't fit the mold of the typical wide receiver. Based on the tried-and-true eyeball test alone he looks like a defensive end or tight end. DSA asked Rodgers at which positions he was being recruited by colleges.
"A lot of them," Rodgers replied. "Receiver, tight end, defensive end and linebacker."
Though he spent a couple years as a youngster in Portland while his father coached at Portland State, Rodgers hadn't been to the University yet.
"This is the first time I've been on the Oregon campus," Rodgers said. "It's really nice. Amazing facilities. We're just here checking out stuff, walking around, seeing what's good. I haven't seen many places yet but the facilities are just great so that has been the highlight so far. Also meeting all the coaches has been fun."
Rodgers expanded upon what interests a Massachusetts star in a West Coast school.
"Outside of campus I just think this is a beautiful State. I lived in Portland when I was little but I don't remember much. It's been nice to come back and check out the scenery because it's a beautiful place."
