August 20, 2009 The Alabama football team practiced in the Hank Crisp Indoor Athletic Facility on Thursday due to the threat of rain in the Tuscaloosa area. UA worked out in full gear. A few observations by BamaOnLine.com from Tuesday's media viewing period:Practice notes ... *** Linebacker Courtney Upshaw, who was arrested Wednesday night on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge, participated in practice on Thursday. Upshaw has been competing at the 'Jack' linebacker position in camp, with veteran Eryk Anders being his primary competition. UA coach Nick Saban is expected to comment on Upshaw when he meets with the media following practice. See BOL's news story on Upshaw by clicking here. *** Cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick rode a stationary bike in a black jersey on Thursday, signifying he is not cleared for contact. Kirkpatrick was also in a black jersey on Wednesday, though Saban has yet to comment on the status of the freshman from Gadsden City High. *** Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Barrett Jones continues to work with the first group at right guard. ... Meanwhile, Alfred McCullough, who competed at right guard earlier in camp, has seen some practice time at tackle the last two days. *** Senior Roy Upchurch was not present with the running backs at practice on Thursday. *** Safeties Mark Barron and Robby Green worked with the first group in the dime package during recognition drills Thursday. *** Quarterbacks went through a wet ball drill on Thursday as support staffers dunked the balls in buckets of water just before each throw. *** Wide receiver Kenny Bell again was not in attendance at practice.
