Chat Room FAQ

Our IChat rooms are equipped to provide a great community experience for BamaOnLine.com. However, as with anything computers, there is always room for user-error. When a situation arises where a user cannot get into the chat, for whatever reason, this FAQ will help guide you.

I'm a first-time chat user and I cannot get the chat window open

Solution #1

Check to see if the user is using any sort of pop-up ad zapper software on his/her browser. The chat window operates in a similar fashion to pop-up ad windows and the user's software may think the chat room window is another pop-up ad. Have the user turn off the ad zapper software and it should work immediately.

Solution #2

There are four different options to choose from when loading the chat room. The first option Plugin requires that the user have all Active X options enabled in their browser settings. Have them head to their Internet Options screen and then select Security. In the Security screen, have them click on the button that says "Custom Level" and then enable all options that mention Active X.

If the user selects any other option, they do not have to have Active X enabled on their browser.

Solution #3

The user just hasn't given the applet enough time to load. First time users should allow the applet plenty of time to load into the system. Expect at least a 5 minute download time in most cases for first-time users.

I've used the chat rooms before, but now it just says "Access granted, logging in", but no window pops up

Solution #1

Check to see if the user is using any sort of pop-up ad zapper software on his/her browser. Solution #2

The user did not successfully log out of the chat room during the last session. If you just close the chat room window without logging out of the chat, you are not going to be able to log back in successfully the next time. To successfully log out of a chat session, the user must type in /exit Username... For example: /exit TigerDad44 or /exit BuckStud55

To fix an error where the user did not successfully log out, he/she will have to clear out the existing cookies on the browser and then re-log in. Make sure that they have their user info saved somewhere else before they do this. Many users clean out their cookies, but don't remember their user info and then have to call or e-mail Customer Support to get it back.

I try to get into the chat room, but keep getting a message that my user name is already in use

Solution

The user did not successfully log out of the system the last time he/she chatted. See Solution #2 of the previous question to see how to help the user log out of the chat room successfully and how to fix those who did not.

Additional Note:

The user's regular message board nickname does not have to be the same as the name he enters for the chat rooms. He can post as BuckStud55 on the boards, but chat as BucksRUs in the chat room.
