February 9, 2013CEDAR FALLS, Iowa | The top-ranked University of Alabama softball team swept day two of the UNI-Dome Classic on Saturday with an 8-2 win over Drake and a 10-7 victory against Wisconsin-Green Bay.
The Crimson Tide improves to 4-0.
The freshman duo of Haylie McCleney and Andrea Hawkins collected six hits on the day, while junior Jackie Traina and senior Keima Davis drove in three runs apiece. The Crimson Tide stole 15 bases.
Against Drake, Alabama plated eight runs on 13 hits as redshirt junior Lauren Sewell earned the win. Sewell, who is coming back from an injury that cut her 2012 season short, went the distance, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out four.
McCleney and Hawkins paced the Crimson Tide with three hits each. McCleney scored two runs and drove in two while Hawkins scored, drove in a run and stole three bases. Junior Jackie Traina also collected three hits, including a three-run home run.
After UW-Green Bay fought back to tie the score at 7, it took a two-out three-run home run in the seventh inning by senior Keima Davis to secure the second win.
The home run - scoring Courtney Conley and Traina - was the second of the tournament for Davis.
Traina came on in relief for the Crimson Tide and got her second win in as many days. She struck out four and allowed two hits in 2 1/3 innings. UA used all three pitchers in the game.
McCleney, Hawkins and Kayla Braud collected three hits apiece. They combined to steal eight bases.
Alabama will close the tournament with a single game today against North Dakota State at 10 a.m.
