January 9, 2013TUSCALOOSA | The University of Alabama women's basketball team will play its third straight Top 25 opponent tonight when it hosts No. 13 Georgia at 8 p.m. at Foster Auditorium. The game will be televised by CSS.
Alabama and Georgia will be meeting for the 44th time. The Lady Bulldogs own a 34-9 record against the Crimson Tide, including 21 straight wins. Alabama's last win against Georgia came on Feb. 8, 1998, by a 90-77 score in Tuscaloosa.
Alabama enters on a two-game losing skid, having dropped both of its Southeastern Conference games. The Crimson Tide is averaging 69.6 points and 41.9 rebounds per game. Alabama is averaging 72.3 shots per game, while its opponents are taking 60.6. The Crimson Tide has forced an average of 23.9 turnovers per game while committing only 13.4 of its own. This has translated into a 334-205 advantage in points off turnovers for Alabama.
Three players are averaging double-figure scoring for UA: sophomore Daisha Simmons (11.7 points per game) and juniors Shafontaye Myers (11.3) and Jasmine Robinson (10.7). Senior Alicia Mitcham averages a team-leading 5.1 rebounds per game.
Georgia started the season 12-0 but has lost two of its last three games, a 70-59 loss at Illinois and a 79-66 loss at No. 12 Tennessee. The Lady Bulldogs are outscoring their opponents by 22.9 points per game, the 10th-best scoring margin in the nation, and are shooting 43.0 percent from the floor as a team.
Georgia has two players that average more than 10 points per game in seniors Jasmine James (12.5) and Jasmine Hassell (11.3).
