Engstrom out for the season after knee injuries
TUSCALOOSA | Alabama's Carl Engstrom will miss the remainder of the 2012-13 basketball season after having surgery to repair ACL and MCL injuries to his left knee.
Dr. Lyle Cain of Andrews Sports Medicine at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham performed the surgery Tuesday morning on the junior center's left anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in his left knee.
Engstrom suffered the injury three minutes into the Crimson Tide's game at Cincinnati on Dec. 1.
"We are disappointed to lose Carl for the remainder of the season," UA head coach Anthony Grant said in a release. "Carl is a very valuable member of our team and will be greatly missed.
"However, the hard work and determination that he has displayed throughout his career will also assist him going forward as he rehabs and prepares to continue his career next season. We are fortunate to have an outstanding medical team that will assist him during this process."
Engstrom, a 7-1 center from Ystad, Sweden, played in seven games this season, making three starts. For his career, Engstrom has played in 53 games, making four starts.
