November 9, 2012TUSCALOOSA | University of Alabama junior guard Trevor Releford has been selected to the preseason All-Southeastern Conference first team, the league announced Friday.
It marks the second straight season Releford earned a spot on the league's preseason team. He garnered preseason second-team honors before last season.
A native of Kansas City, Mo., Releford averaged 12.0 points and 2.0 steals per game a year ago on his way to second-team all-conference accolades. His 64 steals last season ranked fifth in the school record books, and he enters the season with 124 career steals, tied for ninth in UA history.
Ten different schools are represented on the first and second teams. In all, 36 different players received votes for the coaches' teams.
The teams were voted on by the league's coaches. No predicted order of finish was made.
Releford and his Alabama teammates opened the program's 100th season Friday night, hosting South Dakota State in the Tuscaloosa Regional of the 2K Sports Classic benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project.
Sunday, Alabama welcomes in-state foe West Alabama for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
