HOOVER | Gather some 1,100 writers, broadcasters and bloggers for an SEC Media Days free-for-all and you're going to get some stupid questions. Here are some of Wednesday's:

1. Sometimes a question isn't a question so much as a statement. Florida's Will Muschamp encountered one of those.
The question: By beating Ohio State (in the Gator Bowl), you were 7-6 last year. Florida has not had a losing season since 1979.
The answer: Yeah, I know. I was told a couple of times.

2. John L. Smith has a short-term deal at Arkansas to coach one season after being hired in the spring in the wake of Bobby Petrino's firing.
The question: Would you like to coach Arkansas more than one year?
The answer: Well, certainly. Do I look stupid? Don't answer that question.

3.You never know until you ask. It might be a given that everyone associated with Mississippi State football is outfitted with the necessary equipment to support the Bulldogs, including quarterback Tyler Russell, but it's best to make sure.
The question: Do you have a cowbell?
The answer: Yes, I have a cowbell.

4.Someone was watching the NCAA baseball tournament. LSU coach Les Miles was asked a question that referenced Stony Brook, the team that ended the Tigers' baseball season in a super regional upset.
The question: Playing North Texas (on Sept. 1), will you mention Stony Brook to your players?
The answer: Will I mention Stony Brook? No, I won't.

5. Miles was asked four consecutive questions about quarterback Zach Mettenberger. The third one left him without much to add.
The question: Miles was asked about his willingness to utilize the deep passing game with Mettenberger, whether he had reservations about Mettenberger because of an arrest for sexual battery that preceded his transfer from Georgia and whether he had talked to Georgia coach Mark Richt about the quarterback. Those were followed by a question about Mettenberger's development as a quarterback.
The answer: Kind of the same stuff I just said.
