July 12, 2012TUSCALOOSA | Eight University of Alabama players were named to the watch lists for college football's Bronko Nagurski and Outland trophies this morning.
Barrett Jones, the 2011 Outland Trophy winner, is joined on list of the award for the nation's top interior lineman by offensive tackle D.J. Fluker, guard Chance Warmack and defensive tackle Jesse Williams.
Jones is also a candidate for the Rimington Trophy, while Williams on the watch lists for the Lott Impact, Bednarik and Nagurski trophies. Williams made 24 tackles, including four behind the line of scrimmage, and was credited with three quarterback hurries in 2011.
Williams is joined on the Nagurski watch list by senior linebacker Nico Johnson, senior safety Robert Lester, junior corner back Dee Milliner and junior linebacker C.J. Mosley. All except Milliner are also on the Bednarik Award watch list.
Johnson is Alabama's leading returning tackler with 47 stops last season, including 6.5 tackles for loss and an interception. Mosley made 37 tackles last season with 4.5 tackles for loss, including two sacks, and intercepted a pass. Lester made 39 tackles with two interceptions, breaking up three passes and defending five more.
