TUSCALOOSA | Suspended University of Alabama wide receiver Keiwone Malone will transfer to the University of Memphis, according to his former high school coach.

Malone, along with UA defensive end Darrington Sentimore, was suspended earlier this summer for a violation of team rules. The nature of Malone's rules violation is unclear. The transfer will send Malone, who was a four-star recruit in UA's recruiting class of 2010, back to his hometown.

"I think it's a good situation for him, getting back home," said Memphis Mitchell High coach Nathan Cole. "Back where his mom can stay in closer touch with him."

Malone redshirted as a freshman last fall. Cole said does not believe Malone was ultimately dismissed from the team, but rather made the transfer decision on his own.

"I'm pretty sure it was his decision," Cole said. "He had run into some problems at Alabama but he liked it there."

Malone caught three passes for 53 yards in the A-Day game in April and was to compete among several younger players for available playing time at receiver this fall. Minus Malone, wide receiver is still one of the Crimson Tide's deeper positions with 12 scholarship players.
