Will OL follow teammate to BC?
Ryan Ward was in Boston a week ago Saturday to see the Eagles first team scrimmage. The New Lenox (Ill.) Providence Catholic offensive tackle says he is enjoying the recruiting experience and currently holds offers from Boston College, Northwestern, Illinois, Michigan State, Minnesota and Western Michigan.
What did he think of his visit to Boston College?
"BC was great. I loved the atmosphere there," said Ward. "The offense is similar to what I am used to so that's a plus."
What was the coaches' message to the 6-foot-6, 270-pound lineman?
"The coaches were really thankful that my dad and I were able to come out there," said Ward. "They had me look at the great tradition Boston College has with the offensive line and all the success the team has had in the past decade."
Unfortunately the Illinois native had to leave early because of flight issues, but he said he really enjoyed his day. How does Boston College stack up with the other schools he is looking at?
"Boston College seemed like it had a small campus feel but it's right next to Boston. It also is a great academic school," said Ward. "Throw those two things in with good football and that's a place I'm going to be interested in."
The top offensive tackle recruit said he does not have a favorite at this point, but will start to narrow down his list when he gets done with all of his visits. What will his decision come down to?
"The most important thing is definitely the people; the coaches and the players," said Ward. "One of the things I look for is the other people the school is recruiting because those are the guys you are going to be playing with and becoming friends with."
Ward says he will narrow down his list by the beginning of May and says he hopes to make a decision during the summer so recruiting does not affect football.
BC recruited his teammate, Dan Lembke, last year and that will play a role. However, his brother Patrick Ward starts for Northwestern and many think they are the team to beat.
