Could Phillips be the next commit?
When Patterson (La.) High School LB/DE Lorenzo Phillips visited Texas A&M for their Jan. 29 junior day, he was expecting an opportunity to visit the campus and meet some of the coaches. As it turned out, he got a lot more than that.
"I was just there with a few of the players from my school and we were having a great time," he said.
Then Texas A&M coach Mike Sherman came looking for him.
"I got a chance to see coach Sherman before I left and it just went down from there," he said.
"It" was a scholarship offer from the Aggies to the first team All-State 3A selection. The offer floored the 6 foot, 2 inch, 210-lb. Phillips.
"I had no clue I was getting an offer," he said. "I just thought it was going to be a little tour and that's it."
Phillips said he was especially surprised considering how early in the recruiting process it was for him.
"I had only really been hearing from Tulsa and Louisiana Tech, so far as I know," he said.
Is there anyone else he would be interested in hearing from?
"Just whoever comes around," he said, "but I think I've already seen and heard all that I needed."
Phillips, who plays defensive end for the Lumberjacks, is being recruited as a linebacker by the Aggies.
