Gates back in the mix at guard
Michael Gates' final season has not gone the way he had planned.
The senior left guard has had to deal with a rash of injuries that have cost him three games as well as the Bulldogs being on the losing end of most of their contests this season.
"The year has been going pretty rough," Gates said. "We haven't done too good as far as our record. I do feel like every week as a team we have gotten better. As for myself, I have been injured a lot this whole season. It has kind of hurt me but it feels good to get back in the mix."
The 6-foot-4, 305-pounder missed Mississippi State's game last weekend due to turf toe but has recovered enough to rejoin his teammates as a starter on Saturday.
"It hurt a whole lot not being able to play last week," Gates said. "One good thing that I liked about the whole thing is I liked how the offensive line fought. I looked at their lineup next year and I was really proud to see them out there fighting the way they did."
Head coach Sylvester Croom announced on Thursday that the offensive line would go back to normal with Gates moving back into the starting rotation at left guard and J.C. Brignone moving back to center.
