Square announcing today
Jack Yates High School's defensive lineman Damion Square is set to make his verbal commitment this Saturday on Houston Channel 55 KTBE's High School Sports Live.
Square committed to Texas A&M in early February before opening his recruiting up a month later. This weekend, he will make his verbal choice between Alabama, Texas A&M, Miami, Michigan and Florida.
The 6-foot-2 lineman attended Oklahoma State's one-day camp in Houston, Notre Dame's senior camp and has taken two unofficial visits to Alabama. He has also taken numerous visits down the road 100 miles to Texas A&M.
Square is ranked No. 85 in the Texas Top 100 and has been an all-district selection for two seasons. He received his first offer as a sophomore from the University of Utah, and dozens followed.
Here's what he said about his final five.
On Texas A&M: "I really didn't think I was going to like it as much as I did," he said. "They have showed me a lot of love and they are a great program, focused on academics."
On Michigan: "Michigan is the face of NCAA football. It's such a history program and they have come on hard lately."
On Florida: "What can you say about Florida. They are coming off a national championship and they really have it rolling right now."
On Miami: "The U has always been in blood. I've had family play there and it's a special place."
On Alabama: "The proof is in the pudding with Coach Nick Saban. He's demands hard work and he's all business. I've talked with some of the guys there they say it's tough but it's going to be worth it. I think Alabama will be back in the hunt real quick."
