The Big Cat Speaks - The Snowball Effect
Roaming the field in Martin Stadium in a snowstorm in November is invigorating, but crawling out of bed for a slog through the stuff in March - not so much. Especially if you are the head coach and you have been there, done that before.
"I'm getting too old for that," says Cougar head football coach Bill Doba jokingly, who decided to cancel today's practice after getting a glimpse of snowfall this morning.
That can be taken as both good news and bad news for members of the Cougar team, depending on where they sit on the team hierarchy. For the newcomers like tight end Devin Frischknecht and defensive back Cornorris Atkins, the more reps they can get, the better. For the walking wounded like offensive lineman Joe Eppele and quarterback Kevin Lopina, it means extra rest for their injuries - in Eppele's case, just a minor tweak of the shoulder and in Lopina's case, a pulled hamstring. Doba says Eppele is expected to practice tomorrow while Lopina will sit out. But practice or not, the Cougars main concern remains the same - the defensive secondary.
