Multi-sport star receives Tide football offer
One of the central missions of the new Alabama football coaching staff is swinging recruiting momentum in the Mobile area to the Crimson Tide. With a heavy concentration of talented athletes, St. Paul's Episcopal School is an important battleground for the Tide.
After extending offers already to tailback Ivan Matchett and athlete Mark Barron, wide receiver Destin Hood became the latest St. Paul's star to receive a Tide offer on Tuesday afternoon.
"Coach Saban told me that I was the kind of receiver that he is looking for," said Hood, who hauled in 636 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns in 2006. "He likes my size and speed and the fact that I go up and get the ball. We talked about whether I preferred receiver or defensive back, and I told him that I was more comfortable on offense. I have been playing there all my life, and I think I am a difference-maker there."
