Dawson flips to Dawgs
TUCKER - Josh Dawson, Tucker High School's four-star recruit, decided on National Signing Day to flip his commitment from Vanderbilt and sign with Georgia.
Asked when he knew he would make this decision, he said, "I think it was this weekend, last Sunday. But, I wasn't sure until last night around 10 p.m. That's when I made my call to Vanderbilt to show my respect to them."
The first UGA coach he called was Rodney Garner, who Dawson said was very excited to have Josh in the family.
Dawson's family wasn't even aware of who he would choose until last night. "They were waiting on my answer, they didn't really know where I was going to go. Last night when I told them, they seemed happy."
The projected linebacker's recruitment really picked up in the past couple months despite his commitment to Vanderbilt. "After I made the UGA official, I might have had about 40 missed calls," he said. He seemed to enjoy the process though, and wasn't phased by it. "It was very hectic, but I took it one day at a time. Nothing really stressed me out." Coming in with a class of linebackers that include other big-time names such as Josh Harvey-Clemons and Jordan Jenkins has Dawson excited about the opportunity to compete. "I'm happy, and it's time to go to work now."
