Eagles still in good shape with junior OL
It's no secret that Mike McGlinchey is one of BC's top offensive line targets from the Class of 2013. He has ties to the school, he's been around the program and he thinks the team will improve in the coming years.
McGlinchey, a 6-foot-8, 285-pound offensive tackle from Philadelphia (Pa.) William Penn Charter School, is the cousin of Matt Ryan and he has spent plenty of time around the BC program coming up.
"I've been in contact with BC since just about the summer after my freshman year," McGlinchey explained this weekend.
"I really like all the coaches up there and it's a great spot."
Of course, McGlinchey has said all that before. More than a month ago he even went on the record and defended the BC team, pointing to the youth movement in the program that has caused some growing pains. He echoed those thoughts again.
"I know that BC has had a lot of injuries this year and they're young. It's been really tough for them to keep healthy bodies on the field to compete.
"That (the record) isn't a big factor for me. Honestly, I just want to go somewhere I'll be able to compete and play pretty quickly. That's an aspect I'm looking at."
BC, Virginia and Duke are the three schools that have verbally offered McGlinchey thus far and BC is the only one of those three schools that he has visited so far.
"I've also been to Penn State and Maryland," he added.
"I haven't been talking to Penn State that much. We haven't had a lot of contact. Maryland has been talking to me for a while."
No other school has had nearly the amount of contact with McGlinchey that BC has, however.
"They've recruited me really hard," he acknowledged. "I only have three offers so you can say they're at least in the top three. I like them a lot.
"Coach Ryan Day from BC is probably the coach I have the best relationship with out of all the schools recruiting me. With him it's really the time he's put in and the quality person he is. He's been very good to me and family. He couldn't have done anything better."
McGlinchey has been to BC many times with Ryan and others. He stays in regular contact with the quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons.
"He hasn't really pushed or been biased to BC but he has told me there's no other place like it," McGlinchey said. "He tells me he really enjoyed his time there and he couldn't have imagined himself anywhere else.
"He's told me to enjoy the process and find a place I'm really comfortable with. He tells me to keep an open mind and find the place where you'll enjoy four years."
