Nothing can compare for Dillon
For Palmdale (Calif.) defensive end Steve Dillon, seeing is believing.
Though he had already committed to USC, Dillon had wandering eyes. The three-star prospect visited Cal in December and looked at the Golden Bears as a legitimate option.
After a weekend visit to USC, Dillon's mind was made up.
"I really wanted to see how USC compared to Cal," Dillon said. "It was a big no brainer for me. USC completely blew them out. The Marriott was amazing. Knowing the players and getting to spend time with Coach [Ed] Orgeron, it was amazing."
Dillon said he felt USC was a great fit for him. In fact, the feeling hit him on the drive to campus with his mom.
"I told her that I couldn't think of anything but me being a Trojan," Dillon said. "I just knew that even if the visit didn't go right, I felt like I was a Trojan. She asked me when I started feeling like that. I said that it hit me when we were on our way to 'SC. I felt like we were going home, pretty much."
Dillon spent much of the weekend talking to other recruits, including new commits Absecon (N.J.) linebacker Anthony Sarao and Sunnyvale (Calif.) running back Amir Carlisle. Dillon didn't get extensive time to talk with the USC coaching staff, but he felt it wasn't necessary.
"I didn't need much one-on-one time because I know the type of coach that Coach O is," Dillon said.
Defensive end looks to be Dillon's position unless plans change.
"I'm going to play defensive end until further notice," Dillon said. "If I have to play three technique, I'll do it. But on the visit, I was the smallest lineman there, so I don't think that's going to happen."
Dillon formed close bonds with Antwaun Woods and Greg Townsend Jr during the recruiting process. The collective enthusiasm among the three built on the visit.
"We're really excited," Dillon said. "It's one thing knowing that we're all going, but we're excited for Signing Day to come and then getting our play books and getting after it."
