UF-Bama: 10 Questions
For the Florida Gators, tonight's battle at No. 1 Alabama is one players have been thinking about since the team lost to the Crimson Tide in last year's Southeastern Conference Championship Game. But revenge won't win this game. As always, it will come down to coaching and execution. Here are 10 questions entering this much-anticipated showdown:
1. How sharp will Florida's tackling be? When the teams played in the 2009 Southeastern Conference Championship Game, the Gators had 22 missed tackles as the Tide rolled up 251 rushing yards. Tackling has been a major point of emphasis at practice this week in Gainesville but this question remains: Was it poor tackling last year or are Bama running backs Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson just that good?
2. How will Florida defend the Tide? A year ago, Bama not only beat Florida on the ground, but the Tide passed for 239 yards. Since then, the Tide offense has only gotten better. Many think Florida will use its "heavy package" in an attempt to slow the running game. With that grouping, which was used against Tennessee, the Gators put five defensive linemen on the field, including Duke Lemmens, normally an end, at outside linebacker. The goal of the "heavy package" is to get one more tackle on the field, because that is a position at which Florida is very strong.
