Rising 2012 DE visits Tech
Offers are coming in for an emerging talent in the Commonwealth for 2012. The prospect already claims four scholarships. The Hokies didn't pull the trigger on Saturday at their camp, but are continuing to keep a close eye on him.
"I thought I did really well at Tech in most of the drills," Clifton (Va.) Centreville defensive end Ken Ekanem said. "I think I showed my work ethic. My hamstrings were tightening up, but I played through it."
Did Ekanem get much time with the Hokies coaches?
"Most of the coaches were talking to me," he said. "The tight ends coach, Coach Stinespring took note of me along with Coach Wiles, the defensive line coach. I'm also cool with Coach Foster, he's recruiting me and is looking at me either for linebacker or defensive end. The coaches just said they were interested."
Ekanem seemed impressed by his visit to Blacksburg as well.
"It's a nice campus, I like it," he said. "I like how it's near the mountains and I like the surroundings. I've heard the town there is pretty cool. I'm interested in them."
The Hokies obviously didn't offer, but others have.
"I've got four offers from Maryland, Boston College, Virginia and Duke," he said. "Maryland offered in April and then Duke and Virginia offered me in May.
"I'm surprised I got the offers this early. I don't have a favorite college right now. I'd like to be on a team that is well known for their defense like Virginia Tech. I would also like to go to mainly a football school, like Virginia Tech or maybe Virginia. Those are the types I'm interested in."
Ekanem may be able to add more offers this summer as he plans to hit up more camps in the coming weeks.
"I have Clemson on the 10th and then maybe West Virginia on the 14th," he said. "Maryland camp is on the 20th and then Penn State is on the 27th. I plan to go to Tennessee in July too."
The 6-foot-3, 224-pounder posted approximately six sacks and four touchdowns while earning second team all-district honors last season.
